RG-42 Frequently Asked Questions

What baits can I use with the RG-42 spinning rod?

You can use a wide variety, but you will have the best performance with baits and lures that weigh between 1/8 and 1/2 oz. Try smaller spinner baits, plastic worms, crankbaits, swimbaits, and of course live worms and bobbers.

Can I cast very far with a 42” rod?

You will cast surprisingly far with an RG-42.  The easiest way cast it is to point the rod behind you, pause for second, then flip the rod forward.  The rod will do the work to throw your bait.

Can I use the RG-42 Case as checked baggage on an airplane?

The case is made of padded nylon with a stiff backbone. It will protect the rod and reel from getting caught on things and tangled, but heavy objects should never be placed on top of a loaded case. Neither should it be used as checked luggage in an airplane.

What is the warranty on the RG-42 rod and other components and how do I file a claim?

The RG-42 rod, case, and reel have a 1 year warranty against material and manufacturing defects. You can find more information on warranty here.

Is the RG-42 rod for freshwater or saltwater fishing?

The RG-42 rod can be used for both. It excels at catching bass, crappie, sunfish, and other similar freshwater species. If used for saltwater it is best for lighter applications.

Can I buy the RG-42 in any retail stores?

The RG-42 is only sold on our website here. Because we manufacture the RG-42 rod ourselves, we can cut out the middlemen so we can offer excellent value to our customers.

What’s the difference between a finished rod and a blank?

A rod is ready to fish with (once you put a reel on it). It has grips, a reel seat, and guides attached. A blank is literally just the stick part of the rod.

Can I get an RG-42 in a custom color?

While we offer all of our blanks in custom colors to custom rod builders, we do not offer finished rods in custom colors. If you would like a custom RG-42, you should contact a rod builder about having one built (check out some builders).

How do I make a return?

If for some reason you are not happy with your purchase, you can ship the unused product back to us within 30 days of purchase and we will refund your order.

What items does RODgeeks make in their factory?

We make the RG-42 rod in our factory, where we have 10 years of experience building rods for some of America’s most prestigious rod companies. The reel, fishing pliers, tackle tray, and case are made by other experienced manufacturers.

Is the RG-42 a graphite rod?

The blank (stick part) of the RG-42 is made primarily of carbon fiber (graphite) and has a little fiberglass in it, too.  This combination of materials makes the RG-42 a “composite” rod, optimizing sensitivity, action, and durability.

How soon will I get my RG-42 after I place my order?

Customers in the US will generally receive the rod within 4 - 5 business days after placing an order.  We ship within 1 business day of when we receive an order.
